Welcome to the JPC Create writing competition!
April theme: Electric
Categories: 17 and under, 18+
Closing date: NOW CLOSED
John Peel famously once said, “Science will almost certainly never come up with anything as wonderful as the electric guitar” – so for our first competition, we want you to explore all things Electric.
Whether it’s an ode to your favourite toaster, musings on that crackling feeling in the air when something exciting is going to happen, or another interpretation entirely, we want to read about what Electric means and evokes for you.
The contest is open to poetry (up to 40 lines) and short fiction (up to 750 words), and will be judged in two categories: 17 and under, and 18+.
How it works
Please send your submissions as a .docx or .pdf file to firstname.lastname@example.org – with ‘Writing competition – Electric – [Your age category]’ in the subject line.
In the body of your email, please let us know your name, age and location. Winners and runners up will be contacted by the end of May at the latest.
Successful entries, along with the names of winning writers and runners up, will be shared on JPC Create social profiles, as well as on our website.
The JPC Create writing contest is free to enter, but is limited to one entry per person. Please do not submit previously published or competition-winning work (writing that has been entered elsewhere or has appeared on a personal site is fine).
For our April competition, we’re delighted to be partnering with Primadonna Festival to offer two pairs of tickets for our winners!
Primadonna is the UK’s first literary festival to give prominence to the work of women, as well as writers of all genders, economic status and ethnicities whose voices are not usually heard. They’ll be filling the grounds of Stowmarket’s Museum of East Anglian Life from 30th July – 1st August 2021 with talks, interactive events, and opportunities to get creative and get involved. You can find out more at the official Primadonna Festival website.
Each winner will receive two tickets for Primadonna Festival 2021.
One of the tickets awarded to a winner in the 17 and under category must be used by an adult.
Winning entrants will retain full creative rights to share or publish their work independently of the competition.
Winning entrants consent to have all or part of their entries shared on the JPC Create social media channels and website, along with their name and location (unless requested otherwise).
The prize is non-refundable and cannot be exchanged.
Late entries will not be accepted.
