As has been said over and over again (though with good reason!) – it’s been a strange and difficult year. But it’s also been an opportunity to step back and appreciate the importance of community, and the power of the creative arts to give us an escape when things are hard.
A huge part of our vision here at the John Peel Centre has always been to champion creativity – to seek out new voices, new music, and new work. So we’re enormously proud of our wonderful music and events programme so far, through which we’ve tried to provide a platform for emerging artists.
And we also want to do more.
To that end, we’re very excited to announce the launch of JPC Create – a new branch of the John Peel Centre that will be all about the fantastic creative work being done by our community in Stowmarket, in East Anglia, and beyond.
As John Peel himself once said, “I just want to hear something I haven’t heard before” – and that’s really what we want to achieve here too. Through JPC Create, we want to read new writing, listen to new music, laugh at new comedians, discover new theatre, watch new dance, and celebrate new visual art.
So whether you’re a pro or an enthusiastic amateur, if you want to share your successes or your hilarious failures… we’d love to see it all. We’ll be sharing our own efforts too – the good and the bad.
To kick things off, we’ve launched our very first creative writing competition.
