YAK + Off The Wall + Oranje @ John Peel Centre

Yak are an English alternative rock band, formed in 2014 and composed of singer-guitarist Oliver Henry Burslem, bassist Andy Jones, and drummer Elliot Rawson.

The band released their debut album Alas Salvation in May 2016, gaining favourable reviews from publications such as Q Magazine, NME, and The 405. Read the NME review of Yak’s first album Alas Salvation here.

Last year they had a headline tour, played Glastonbury Festival and Reeperbahn Festival, as well as supported the likes of The Last Shadow Puppets.

“The most exciting and refreshing live act around” – Oxford Times
“Yak shoot from the hip with an impetuous racket that’s rarely short of breathtaking” – Q
“Yak have gained a reputation as one of the UK’s more riotous rock ’n’ roll bands” – DIYmag.com

YAK live gig reviews:

“I was expecting a group of primadonnas, but it turned out they were there to put on a show instead. Yak are a band with an attitude.

Frontman Oli looks like a young Mick Jagger, and sounds like he has been locked in a room with a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club CD for a couple of years. During ‘Harbour the Feeling’ he evaded security and hopped onto the crowd behind the barriers (and nearly took off a fellow photographer’s head in the process). If you want live music that makes you feel like you’ve been in a seriously hard street fight, Yak will be happy to do that for you. Or you can just float along on their psychedelic garage trip instead.” – Truck Festival 2017, The Revue.ca

Gulliver’s, Manchester – February 2016 – Louder Than War
Dingwalls, London – May 2016 – CUB Magazine

Support from Off The Wall and Oranje

At the age of 11, four friends got together to form the band ‘Off The Wall’. Nearly seven years later inspired by, amongst others, ‘Queens of Stone Age’, ‘Arctic Monkeys’ and ‘Reverend and the Makers’, and ‘Royal Blood’, Fin Clark, Adam Looker, Albert Wallace and Sam Warner have just released their third independent single ‘Got No Money’.

The band have huge support from BBC Introducing Suffolk, who’ve played all three singles, and had the band in for a live session.

Off The Wall have gigged extensively throughout East Anglia and London.

The band will be on a UK tour in early 2018, in support of the release of their debut album.

With a fusion of Foo Fighters, Foals and Wolf Alice, indie rock band Oranje started out as just a bit of fun for 4 friends. 3 months in, they’ve already began writing their first EP, having played Ipswich’s May Day festival this year. Lead singer Dez Jones’s stylistic approach and effortless ability for harmonies, twinned with the hard hitting punch and versatility of bassist Elle Rowbotham’s bass-lines. This, matched the subtle grace of John Bonham and the Jazz influence within drummer James Squirrell, met with the ever impressive solos and pedalwork from lead guitarist Duncan Drake, makes this band set for exciting things.
