The King Is Blind + Shrines + To The Nines | IVW @ John Peel Centre

As part of Independent Venue Week, we bring you a night of metal, with double-headliners The King Is Blind and Shrines, with support from To The Nines.

The King Is Blind were formed in 2013 by Stepen Tovey, Lee Appleton (both ex-Entwined) and Paul Ryan (ex- The Blood Divine and Cradle of Filth) who recruited Barney Monger (ex-Extreme Noise Terror) on drums. They later approached Ceri Monger, Barney’s brother to join them on bass – he is currently the bass player for New Model Army. The King Is Blind  have rapidly established themselves as a metal outfit of force and credibility.

A band of pedigree, The King Is Blind combine the premier elements of Death, Doom and HEAVY Metal to create a fearsome package of Monolithic Metal, backed by blistering and skull-shattering live performances. Hailing from East Anglia, The King Is Blind perform dark, aggressive music with an impressive narrative arc and genuinely terrifying majesty.

Discography: We Are The Parasite, We Are The Cancer (Album – Calva Records – 2017); Our Father (Album – Cacophonous – 2016); The Deficiencies of Man (EP – Mordgrimm – 2014)

Shrines is a new UK-based collaboration of some of London’s most prolific metal musicians set to deliver a powerful, pioneering and eclectic sound to 2018. Born from a raw beginning and raised to reach a panoramic scale of sound, Shrines adheres to a textured and cinematic approach to music whilst delivering a form of the black and death-inspired sounds from which it has risen. With songs that capture a wide array of narrative and emotion, from love and violence, to David Lynch’s exploration of evil in Twin Peaks, Shrines is a unique and unconfined exploration of nature. By using story-telling to deliver a snapshot of both human vice and endeavour, there is no stone left unturned. Featuring members of Akercocke and Voices, this new venture is set to define these musicians and produced their most innovative work to date.

To The Nines formed in 2013 by Ray ‘El Roacho’ Mitchell (Skinticket/Fight with Honour) – guitar and Barney ‘Buzz’ Monger (Extreme Noise Terror/The King Is Blind) – drums, with the vision of creating a Hardcore band to represent the Suffolk scene. Joined by Ant Pring (Vividus/Count Your Friends) on guitar, Billy Brace (Lunar Viscra/Dark Era) on bass and Stu ‘Beef’ Bridges (Thames Burial) on vocals, TTN laid waste to the John Peel Centre in Stowmarket supporting Arise.

2014 saw TTN releasing their debut EP ‘DOGS’ recorded at HVR Studios by Danny B (Criminal/Lock Up/Annihilated) and produced and featuring John Loughlin of the mighty Raging Speedhorn. It was also the year to see them impress crowds supporting prominent figures of the UK and European Hardcore scene such as Proven, Ninebar, Fallbrawl, and Grove Street Families.

In 2015 Ant parted ways with TTN and replaced with Billy’s brother, Charles ‘Teach’ Brace (Lunar Viscra). After almost a year of gigging and writing new material, TTN entered back into HVR Studios to record their full length album ‘THE STRUGGLE’ featuring guest spots from Pierre (Knuckledust), John Audio (Broken Chakra) and AK (Fallbrawl).

At the beginning of 2017 TTN parted ways with Billy and soon after Ray had to leave due to personal circumstances so a major line up change happened.

Now armed with a completely crushing new line up of Matt (vocals), Teach (guitar), Beef (guitar), Dave (bass), and Buzz (drums) and whole load of new material, TTN will be stomping stages around the UK in 2018.

This gig is part of Independent Venue Week, 29th January to 4th February 2018.
