GetOnTheSoapBox presents The King Driscolls @ John Peel Centre

A Soapbox kinda gig featuring three of our favourite bands, and a bunch of poets doing words inbetween music. Quirky, fun and fabulous. Festival attitude and attire is welcomed.

The King Driscolls: A three piece folk outfit who play a mix of traditional and original songs. All three of us are land workers, Essex countryside born and raised, which has heavily influenced our music. Our songs range from rousing ballads to bawdy foot stompers and most of what lies in-between.

Elly Tree: Songs of breathing, sex, death and gardening….songs about walking, songs with Einstein in them, songs about keeping on keeping on, songs about heavy shit and songs as light as air. Lead by singer/songwriter Helen Woodbridge on vocals and baritone uke, Merlyn Bruce on cajon and melodica, Andy Heasman on bass and backing vocals, and Hannah Hinchcliffe on sax and flute.

The Pookajee Players: Not quite music, not quite comedy, The Pookajee Players offer a unique blend of silliness. The cornerstone of there act is using all manner of instruments in order to make silly noises for the entertainment of others. With influences ranging from the folk-blues of Rev. Gary Davis and Big Bill Broonzy, to the 60s surf of The Shadows and The Ventures; with hints of music hall, tin pan alley and Ted Chippington, you’re never bored when The Pookajee Players are around.
