HORSE PLAY
The remarkable TRUE STORY of Sprowston Boy; athlete, companion and…well…horse.
Geoff and his childhood best friend grew up on Sprowston Road, Norwich. A sixth generation coal merchant and a salesman, they clubbed together to buy their ‘dream horse’. That horse was Sprowston Boy, and he went on to win the final and most coveted race at Royal Ascot ‘87. And was jockeyed by the first, and only, female to win it for another 32 years!
An underdog adventure with unlikely heroes, written by Geoff’s granddaughter. Pieced together using press cuttings, interviews, a scrapbook, and just a sprinkle of theatrical magic.
“You see, it is all true…well, most of it”.
Presented by Norfolk Arts Awards nominee The Whiting’s On The Wall. With original music by Skinny Boy Tunes, as featured on BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 6. Supported by Arts Council England, The Garage Norwich and National Horse Racing Museum.
