New wave and synth-pop legends China Crisis were part of a wave of Liverpool bands, alongside A Flock Of Seagulls, Echo & the Bunnymen and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, which emerged from the post-punk scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
China Crisis achieved major success in the UK with five Top 40 singles, ten Top 50 singles and three Top 40 albums, as well as hits across Australia, Europe and America. Their singles include African and White, Christian, Working with Fire and Steel, and Black Man Ray.
The group’s biggest and most well-known hit, Wishful Thinking, premiered in a BBC Peel session in January 1983, before breaking into the Top 10 over a year later. The group recorded two sessions for John Peel, and their song African and White featured in John’s 1982 Festive Fifty.
Following a hiatus, founding members Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon reformed China Crisis and returned with a new album, Autumn in the Neighbourhood, in 2015. It was their first studio album in 21 years.
