Satellites – A bittersweet, epic, intimate story of two brothers, separated by war. One becomes part of humanity’s biggest successes, the other one of humanity’s biggest failures

In the year 2,002,018, the space craft Pioneer 10 arrives at the giant star of Aldebaran. In 1945, Tom and his brother Cor lose each other in war. Tom became part of one of humanity’s greatest successes – the space programme; whilst Cor became a number in humanity’s greatest failure – the concentration camp system. Generations later, their great-niece goes on a journey to reunite them. In an epic, bittersweet story of heritage, disappearance and space travel written between Europe and America, Satellites asks questions about who and what we leave behind, and how we can begin to measure the immeasurable.

THE RAVEN

An excursion into the weird and wonderful mind of Edgar Allan Poe

adapted by Pat Whymark

“One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” Carl Jung.

If any writer of the last two hundred years can lay claim to “making the darkness conscious” it is surely Edgar Allen Poe.

An excursion into the weird and wonderful mind of Edgar Allan Poe through his short stories; the gothic intensity of “Ligeia”, the palpable malevolence of “The Cask of Amontillado”, the sumptuous imagery of “Mask of the Red Death”, and Poe’s most famous poem of loss and madness, “The Raven”.

Glimpses of the man and his life are revealed in his own words, and in those of his critics, contemporaries and friends.

Presented in cabaret style, with filmed elements and original live music played by our company of actor-musicians, Common Ground celebrates the work of this remarkable and innovative artist.

Suitable for adults and young people aged 12 and over.

A MURDER AT ST. MUTTLEY’S

An Hercule Poudrot mystery

 by Pat Whymark

While on a Christmas visit to his cousin, Sister Immaculata Biggles, in the secluded convent of St Muttley’s, renowned detective Hercule Poudrot meets Bishop Humbedee, who has arrived to celebrate mass. Next day, The bishop is no-where to be found, and with no-one to lead their carol service, the desperate sisters of St Muttley engage the services of Poudrot and his intrepid sidekick Hustings to find the missing cleric.

What dark secrets will they uncover in the neighboring village of Ditcham? What is the macabre history shared by it’s inhabitants? What other goings on – are going on?

Another classic festive comedy thriller, brought to you by Suffolk-based Common Ground Theatre Company, the team behind many genre spoof Xmas shows, most recently last year’s Sherlock Holmes Meets Count Dracula!
